May is here! Do you know what that means? School will soon be out and the seniors are graduating!!! Yep, time for some change. The high school seniors will be going to college; some leaving home for the first time. The college seniors are stepping out on their own in hopes to find a job and start a life of their own. And, that’s just the changes for them. Think about their families who are saying goodbye to their kids as they go off to college or the new job! Yet, life is all about change.
We are born, and as we enter the world, we are greeted with change. We now have air all around us instead of fluid! We eat from a bottle before we learn to eat with our teeth. We crawl before we walk. We learn how to write and do math. A whole new world opens around us as we learn new things. The learning of new things is another form of change. As we change, our perspectives and views of how we see the world change.
Our oldest daughter is getting ready to graduate from high school this month. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been gathering pictures for her announcement, getting the house cleaned and ready for her drop-in, and prepping for college in the fall. It has been months of change already with many more to come; especially come August when she steps foot onto college soil! As the pictures have been viewed, though, I’ve been reminded of the many changes that have taken place in her life as I see pictures of her as a baby and then of her attending prom. How the times have changed!
I used to run from change at the mention of its very name. The older I get, though, I’m stopping to think about the change before running in fear. I am taking the time to evaluate if the change is a good change. Things that once served a purpose might not be the best option for your present. Think about a favorite shirt you had a child. You might have worn it as often as possible. One day, though, the sleeves became too small and your parents purchased a newer option for you. Yes, you could keep the old, favorite one, but it wouldn’t keep you as warm as the new one that fit perfectly. We have many things and circumstances in life that are our favorites and we are comfortable in them. We enjoy our family and friends and we wonder why we would need anything else. Yet, sometimes God calls us to change things in our lives. It doesn’t mean they are all bad. Perhaps, though, God has something that fits you better right now in your present.
Is there a familiar and comfortable circumstance you are in where God is calling you to stretch and move forward into uncharted waters? Don’t run in fear. If you tend to run from change, run to God. If you lean into God and cling to Him, you’ll find true stability. Life will always change around you; yet, God is unchanging.
So, are you ready for more change?

Love this! I too used to worry about change, but now I have learned to just let go and let God!
Thanks, Susan. You stated it well! These thoughts are dear to my heart, especially, when you used our sweet Elizabeth, as an example. Love you, for helping us think about life.
