I was looking for a particular verse in Isaiah during my devotions this week. As I was writing in my journal, as a prayer to God, I cried out that I felt stretched and felt there were so many different things to do. Yet, each time something has come up lately in my life, I’ve prayed over the situation and I felt a call to say “yes” after a period where I said “no” to many things. As I searched for the verse in Isaiah…I knew it was near chapter 52 or 54…and, that’s when I saw it: A Call to Trust the LORD. This was the heading for Isaiah 51:1-23. Right above that title read, “…trust in the LORD and rely on your God. But watch out, you who live in your own light and warm yourselves by your own fires.”
And then we have Isaiah 51.
- v.1: Listen to me
- v.3: The LORD will comfort
- v.4: Listen to me, Hear me
- v. 6: Look up and gaze down – My salvation lasts forever
- v.7: Listen to me
- v.12: I, yes, I, am the one who comforts you.
- v.13: Yet you have forgotten the LORD, your Creator
- v.15: For I am the LORD your God, who stirs up the sea, causing its waves to roar. My name is the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
Each verse speaks to the fact that it is imperative to keep my focus upon God. I get overwhelmed when I look at the problems and take my eyes off of God. It’s the Peter walking on water all over again. He walked on the water as He kept his eyes on Jesus and began to sink when he looked at the waves (the thing that could possibly overwhelm him). It’s another reminder to us to trust in the LORD!
Trust requires several things:
- Relinquish control – Let go of the situation
- Keep our eyes on Jesus – Don’t dwell on the circumstances
- Believe that God is good – He wants good for us and not evil
If we can trust that God is good and wants the best for us, we will more than likely keep our eyes on Him and give Him control of the situation.
What situation are you facing today? What part of trusting is hard for you? God is calling you to trust Him! Will you answer the call?
