Life has a crazy way about being crazy. Just when you think everything is falling into place, you look up and something comes out of nowhere, sweeps you off of your feet, and you are left in a whirlwind. Is it possible to be grounded through the ups and downs of life, or can our best hope be to hold on to the nearest sturdy structure and wait for the storm to ride its course?
There is hope!
Want some peace? You need to know what is the sturdy structure in your life. Is it grounded in God (on solid ground) or is it grounded on temporal things (sinking sand)? Your best friend will not always be there for you. Your spouse will not always be there for you. Your parents, siblings, children, friends…they’ll all eventually let you down one day. If they are the “thing” you’re putting your hope and trust into, you will be crushed by the winds of life. When you are let down by the sturdy structure you believe is holding you in place, your grip will fail, and you’ll be tossed about in life.
Simple as it is, you must be grounded in God. He is your hope and He is your peace.
I’ve come to a point in my life where I crave my alone time with God even more than I crave time with other believers. Let me explain. Have you ever had a great group of friends that you loved hanging out with a lot? You all get along well and you have a great conversation. Then, you have time to get alone with one of those friends on Monday, another friend on Thursday, and then the other friend on Saturday. Sure, you had a great conversation when you were all together, but there is something special about a one-on-one session with your friends. You seem to connect more deeply, your conversations are true and honest because you can’t hide in the crowd of friends: it’s more intimate. This is how I’m seeing my time with God these days: intimate. I love fellowship with other believers, but it can never replace what I gain on my one-on-one times with God. We just go deeper when it’s just the two of us.
It’s during these one-on-one times with God where I find my peace. I confirm I rely upon Him for His strength. I acknowledge my shortcomings and errors of my ways and ask Him to show me His paths. I realize my thankfulness of having Him in my life. Everything suddenly comes into proper perspective when I’m in the presence of the Almighty God. Life has a funny way of seeming hopeless, overwhelming, and impossible when I view it through my strength. Likewise, life has a funny way of seeming hopeful, calming, and possible when viewed through the strength of God. Therein lies my peace. It’s in His hands. It was there until I grabbed it and put it in my hands. It’s time to put life back into the hands of God and enjoy His peace that passes all understanding.
Want some peace?
