School is coming to an end in most areas and summer will be here. What I remember from school is being told I was either right or wrong. You were graded on most of your work and it was always a decision of how hard I was going to work or not. No matter if I cared about a project or not, I never liked being told I was wrong. Yet, there are many times in life we are faced with the idea that we are wrong.
So, what do we do when that dreaded time comes and we are wrong?
- We retreat to get away from people.
- We hide in shame.
- We brag about it in hopes that the approval of others will make us feel better.
- We beat ourselves up.
Sadly, most of “being wrong” brings negative emotions upon us. No matter how hard we try to make the situation seem better, we are ultimately separating ourselves from God every time we do “wrong” and “sin”. What ultimately happens when we are wrong is we try to do things to make the situation better. The Bible tells us we can do nothing apart from God; He is our saving grace.
Acts 3:19-20 says, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you–even Jesus.
The only way to receive the refreshing we so desire is to turn to God and ask for forgiveness. Jesus suffered tremendously for us to be able to have fellowship with Him and God. Never take that for granted.
So, what do Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit provide for us when we are wrong?
- Fellowship with the King! He longs to be with us in a relationship.
- Full openness and honesty when we ask for forgiveness.
- Humility. We realize the depth of our separation and become thankful for God’s mercy and forgiveness.
- Love. God is LOVE. There is nothing as simple and as complicated as that statement.
Without God, we are all wrong when we try to do life on our own. We can never replace His Lordship in our lives by putting ourselves on a pedestal and becoming our own idol and lord.
Who’s really wrong? Humanity and our sinful nature. Does this ban us to a life of isolation, shame and guilt? Thanks be to God, NO! He’s provided His Son as a living sacrifice for our sins in order to restore us to Him. Never take that for granted.
Live for God and do good. Let’s lead others to Him so all will realize the love and communion of God.
What “wrongness” do you need to make right today?
