It was a typical day in my life. Nothing spectacular was happening. I helped the kids to get ready for school. Worked around the house. Worked on projects to be completed. And, as I was completing these tasks, I prayed because something seemed to be missing. I prayed God would make Himself real to me and that He would interrupt my life.
You must realize, I don’t like interruptions from my schedule. I like to make a list and get things done. Still, I knew, deep down, that I needed God to interrupt my schedule. I continued to pray. “Lord, please make Yourself known to me. Help to me see You so that I realize You are You and life is not all about our day-to-day routines.”
I saw deer.
I was on the way to pick up my daughter from an after-school activity and there they were in the middle of someone’s yard: one male and one female deer.
“You see, even though it seems simple enough, I provide the grass for the deer,” I seemed to hear in my head.
“As the deer pants for streams of waters, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?” (Psalm 42:1-2 NIV)
God loves me. This inner longing inside of my soul can only be filled with His love and His presence. I desire to go and meet with Him!
Yes, I’m overwhelmed. I’m overwhelmed by God Himself. The Creator of the universe.
I’m overwhelmed that:
- He knows my name
- He cares about my day-to-day routine
- He desires to interrupt my schedule
- He loves my family and friends more than I do
- He still desires those who hate Him to come to Him
- He is God and I am not and He still chooses me
I pray today that we will all be overwhelmed by this God of ours.
What about God overwhelms you? Do you welcome His interruptions?

Susan so beautifully said! It’s so awesome that you prayed but then were sensitive to see His response although it may not have been what you expected.
Thanks, Ann. Sadly, we sometimes get so caught up in our situations that we forget to take time for seeing God act…as we’ve prayed for Him to do.
Susan, you are so right. It is rather overwhelming how much God knows us and seems to provide signs when we pray to him and ask for his help. Beautiful story!
Isn’t it strange that we find it overwhelming when God acts as Himself? He so desires to be with us in every little thing!
