Give Thanks

My Scripture reading today took place in Psalm 28:6-9:

“Blessed be the LORD, because He has heard the voice of my supplication. The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him. The LORD is their strength, and He is a saving defense to His anointed. Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; be their shepherd also, and carry them forever.”

I thought this was fitting for Thanksgiving Day today. The end of verse reads, “and with my song I shall thank Him”. This doesn’t seem like a hard task: to sing a thankful song. What we have to pay attention to, though, is what must come before our song of thanksgiving.

  1. Acknowledgement of who God is in our lives. We have to understand our strength comes from God. He is our protector.
  2. We must trust God with our hearts. It’s easy to give God lip service of our trust in Him and His plan for our lives, but our true desires and wishes lie in our hearts. Do we trust Him with our true desires and wishes?
  3. We must allow God to help us. This includes both big and small things. We can’t do it all on our own. We need others in our lives, including God.
  4. We must praise God. God does so much for us in our lives. We must take time to praise Him. When we praise God, the song of thankfulness will soon follow.

What does your sticky note look like today? Do your words include acknowledgment of who God is in your life? Do the words show your trust in God? Are you allowing Him to help you? Are you praising God?  It’s time to sing your song of thankfulness to God!

Happy Thanksgiving!
