I love lists and schedules. I enjoy knowing what will happen from one day to another. Which day will I do laundry? Monday’s and Thursdays, of course! What about groceries? Wednesday or Thursday. I do this in other areas of my life, too. I just like routine and boundaries. It helps me in saying both “yes” and “no” to others. I feel a certain sense of freedom in the routine. Now, I know there are others out there who find this lifestyle restrictive because I have helped you with your scheduling and you have equally forced me to be a bit more spontaneous. I know you exist and I thank you for your help to me. As much as I enjoy a good plan, though, and as much as the other half love not having a plan, we all have something in common: we all get unexpected news that throws us at times.
This unexpected news happened to me this week. It seemed the more questions I asked, the more the response was, “I just don’t know.” Seriously, that answer doesn’t go over well with a planner. I mean, how will I know how to plan my next few weeks in life with the “I don’t know” response? Yet, my Bible study that I’ve been doing this week was about the secret place of God. We can hide in Him and He will protect us and give us strength. So, as I heard the unexpected news, I was not crushed. I knew God was with me and was there even before I heard the news. I love hiding in His secret place of His strength for I cannot do it on my own?
Psalm 24:8-9 reads,”Who is the King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O gates, and lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in!” (NASB)
Did you have some unexpected news this week or last? Are you trying to hide your secrets and handle it in your own strength, or are you giving your secrets to God and allowing His strength to carry you? Let it go and let God in!
